Nut and Dried Fruit Bags Designed for Recycling
Nuts and seeds go rancid when oxygen gets in. Dried fruit goes soft, sticky or sugary when moisture moves the wrong way. The bag has to slow both, then survive retail handling and, often, repeated opening at home.
Walter Solutions works with Canadian brands on polyethylene-based pouches for these products. Structures are high barrier and designed for PE recycling streams. Local collection still varies, so the bag is not described as recyclable everywhere. See our recyclability language.

What the film has to do
- Low oxygen transmission, to slow oxidation and rancidity
- Moisture barrier matched to the product: nuts usually need to stay dry; some dried fruit is more sensitive to moisture transfer
- Seal integrity after nitrogen flush, if you gas-flush
- Grease resistance for roasted and oil-roasted nuts
- A reclosable zipper for retail packs that are used over several weeks
- Clear windows only where they do not compromise the barrier you need
A trail mix is not one product. Nuts and dried fruit in the same bag can pull the structure in two directions. Tell us the ratio and the water activity if you have it.

Structures
PE/PE is the usual starting point for dry nuts, seeds and dried fruit. It is designed for PE recycling streams.
PP/PP Premium is for conditions where heat and humidity make PE a weaker choice. We recommend it only after the product and the route are reviewed.
Roasting oil, flavour coatings, salt and fruit acidity all affect seal and shelf life. Those are checked in sampling and in your own shelf-life test, not assumed from a data sheet.

Recyclability notice
Recycling acceptance and collection methods vary by province, municipality and recycling program. A package described as “designed for recycling” has been developed with material compatibility in mind but may not be accepted in every local collection system.
